Shahid Ali

Shahid is a Chartered Town Planner with 18 years' experience in planning and development consultancy in Scotland. Shahid was a Director at JLL and, following 14 years at the company, joined Ryden in November 2021. He has also worked as a planner at Glasgow City Council and Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Shahid provides services to a variety of clients, including strategic land promotion, development feasibility studies, market assessments, complex major planning applications and negotiations with regulatory authorities, urban regeneration and masterplanning, and appeals work. With his extensive public and private experience, Shahid seeks to provide a proactive and enthusiastic client focussed approach by identifying issues early in the planning process to mitigate risks.

RECENT EXPERIENCE:

Get Living, High Street, Glasgow - planning consent for Build to Rent and student apartments, and commercial space. The high density development includes blocks at 20 storeys. 

Motcomb Estates, King Street Car Park, Glasgow – Circa 1m sqft high-density mixed-use development. It includes Build to Rent, residential, hotel, office etc., with significant public realm and placemaking. 

Inhabit, Candleriggs Quarter, Glasgow - Comprehensive mixed-use consent that included 128 bed hotel, 139 private apartments, 447 Build to Rent units, 574 student accommodation beds, retail, and commercial space, with a maximum height of 17 storeys. The proposals included demolition of listed and non-listed buildings. 

Formal Investments, Former BHS Building on Sauchiehall Street / Bath Street, Glasgow - Mixed use development including 13,000sqm 12 storey office development, and retail and commercial space.

L&G, 21 George Street, Dale House, Glasgow - Demolition of unlisted building and erection of mixed-use development comprising a 160 bed hotel, retail, office, food and drink, leisure, and public house within the heart of the city centre.  

Cala, Jordanhill Campus, Glasgow - Sensitive former University of Strathclyde site in the west end of Glasgow. Shahid led on the detailed planning and listed building application for 407 residential units secured at planning hearing committee.
