New Uniform Business Rate Announced

1st April 2016

Your business rates bill is set to increase from today – 1 April – as the new Uniform Business Rate (UBR) for non-domestic property for 2016/17 comes into effect.

For Scotland, the UBR has increased from:

  • 48p to 48.4p (for properties with a Rateable Value (RV) of less than £35,000) and;
  • 49.3p to 51p (for properties with a RV of more than £35,000).

For England, the UBR has increased from:

  • 48p to 48.4p (for properties with a RV of less than £18,000) and:
  • 49.3p to 49.7p (for properties with a RV of £18,000 or more outside London).

Your business rates bill is calculated by multiplying the RV of your property by the UBR.   To find out how the new UBR  impacts your rating liability, use one of our business rates calculators.
