Local Turriff businessman buys Buckley’s

24th March 2015

The iconic Buckley’s at Deveron Country House in Turriff is set to reopen six months after closing its doors.

The property has been purchased by a local businessman who intends to open “soon, after some minor refurbishment”.  The new owner also has longer term plans to develop the 824 sq m (8,869 sq ft) entertainment venue into a hotel operation.

Prior to closing at the end of August last year, Buckley’s had been under the same ownership since 1990.  Due to retirement the property was put on the market and subsequently placed into liquidation.  A high level of interest was received, prompting selling agent Ryden to set a closing date for offers.  An asking price in excess of £300,000 was being sought.

Buckley’s is extremely well known to the residents of Turriff, being the former town hall and cinema.  Currently the property is comprised of a lounge, main bar, nightclub, restaurant and private function suites over three floors.

Andy Macpherson, licensed trade expert at Ryden who handled the sale commented: “Buckley’s was a thriving business under its previous owner and it’s great to see it acquired by local hands and retained for licensed use.  The new owner’s longer term plans will help to further develop the business and means that the foreseeable future of this historical landmark has been secured.”
