Baillie Gifford takes over 20 West Register Street’s office space in Edinburgh

26th June 2018

Investment management firm Baillie Gifford is set to occupy the entire office space at 20 West Register Street, Edinburgh. The property is part of the £85 million regeneration project at ‘The Registers’ in the city centre developed by property investor, developer and operator, Chris Stewart Group (CSG).

The independent global investment manager will take over all 60,000 sq ft of Grade A office accommodation. Extending over the ground floor entrance, seven upper floors and including fifth and sixth floor terraces, 20 West Register Street will be capable of accommodating approximately 700 members of staff once completed in early 2019.

Designed by the award-winning Hoskins Architects, the building blends a modern sandstone and glass finish with an existing historic stone façade and sits on the south east corner of St Andrew Square.

Chris Stewart, CEO at CSG, said: “The agreement with Baillie Gifford is very positive news for Edinburgh and for the continued transformation of St Andrew Square and the east end of the city centre. 20 West Register Street will be a stunning focal point on the south east corner of St Andrew Square and alongside The Edinburgh Grand will draw people through to the new Edinburgh St James.”

Alan Paterson, Partner at Baillie Gifford, added: “This high quality office is well located in Edinburgh city centre’s flourishing east end, in close proximity to our headquarters at Calton Square. It offers us flexible space as we plan for the long term expansion of our client base, and will be an attractive working location for our staff.”

Peter I’Anson, Partner at Ryden, also said: “This property is in a perfect location for a business such as Baillie Gifford, who will enjoy the benefits of this full grade A-specified office accommodation, with high quality finishes throughout, surrounded by an excellent social space with a great range of food and drink offerings for the staff to enjoy after work.”

Ryden and Shepherd and Wedderburn represented Baillie Gifford in this transaction with JLL and Cuthbert White with Davidson Chalmers representing Chris Stewart Group.
