Manchester's Midland Hotel Being Refurbished
Manchester’s Midland Hotel has been undergoing an extensive external refurbishment programme over the last 2 years.
The building is of significant architectural importance to Manchester and the works have totalled over £1million, including re-roofing and upgrading of the external elevations, diagnosing building defects, preparing specifications and tendering for the works. The refurbishment, which is ongoing, began in the summer of 2004 and continues on a phased programme. Works have had to be carried out sympathetically, with the knock-on effects on hotel users kept to a minimum.
Part of the development process is anticipating unforeseen defects and dealing with them. Significant preparation was undertaken in the case of the Midland Hotel, particularly in relation to considering possible defects on the elevations and roof which ensured that costs have been minimised and the works are to budget to date.
Ryden has been managing the project including overseeing the repairs and redecoration to the entire fabric of the Grade II listed hotel.
