Ryden to appeal Angus Council’s Rates

3 February 2011

Following a competitive tendering process, Angus Council has selected property firm Ryden to carry out appeals following the 2010 rating revaluation where the local authority saw its rateable value (RV) rise by over a third across its operational property portfolio.

Schools, libraries, leisure centres, offices and service depots are among the 374 properties which now have a total RV of approximately £11.7 million, up around 34.5% from the pre-revaluation total of approximately £8.7 million.

Local market leader Ryden beat off competition from several other rating consultants to secure the three year appointment.

Partner Gus Stewart describes the appointment by the Council as “vital in ensuring that their rates outgoings were fair, equitable and minimised”.  He explains that the local authority has been hit by some huge rises:

“Angus Council’s overall RV has risen by about a third.  The total RV of its schools portfolio has increased by 43% - just over £2 million - to a total of approximately £6.8 million.  The RV of the region’s libraries has risen by 58% and its sports and swimming pools portfolio by 46%.”
