The Waterwheel Inn goes on the market
28 March 2011
The Waterwheel Inn, one of the most prominent hotels/public houses in Aberdeen, has been put up for sale.
Owner Mike Wilson decided to place the 21-bedroom hotel on the market after receiving numerous approaches from various parties including care home operators and residential developers. The hotel was no longer part of Mr Wilson’s core business and he hopes that a sale will give fresh impetus to the property.
Property consultant Ryden is inviting offers for the 0.57 hectare (1.42 acre) site, which comprises an attractive two storey stone building with tower and waterwheel dating back to 1600 when the property was used as a grain mill powered by water. Over the years the original building at North Deeside Road in Bieldside has been extended and it now spans 7,299 sq ft and encompasses en-suite bedrooms, restaurant, lounge bar/conservatory, function suite and car park.
The property is suitable for continued use as a hotel/public house or could be redeveloped for a variety of other purposes including residential, care home or retail, subject to planning consent.
Arron Finnie, partner at Ryden Said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be handling the sale of such a well known hotel in Aberdeen. This presents an exciting opportunity for either a hotel operator or developer to acquire premises in one of Aberdeen’s most prestigious areas.”
