Porex Technologies acquires Merlin House

2 November 2011

Porex Technologies acquires Merlin House in one of the largest industrial transactions in the Highlands so far this year.

Porex Technologies Limited has acquired Merlin House, Alness Point Business Park, Ross-shire from Highlands & Islands Enterprise (HIE).  Porex Technologies previously leased the property extending to 3,149 sq m (23,131 sq ft) occupying a site area of 204,732 sq ft (4.7 acres).  The firm is a leading developer and manufacturer of porous materials for the industrial, health care and consumer markets and the purchase of the building allows them to consolidate and expand their existing operations on site.

Charlie Lawrence, Associate at Ryden who acted on behalf of Porex Technologies in the acquisition said: “I am delighted we have completed this acquisition.  Given the UK economy is rebalancing, it is clear we need to consolidate and grow our manufacturing base.  It is very encouraging that a high tec manufacturer and important local employer is committed to Alness Point Business Park, to Easter Ross and the Highlands in general.  The property offers expansion potential that will allow my client to continue to grow their business.”

Andy MacLennan, Managing Director of Porex Technologies Ltd commented: “I am very proud of our business and the year on year success we have delivered in challenging economic conditions. It is our track record of delivering that underpinned the decision to acquire the operating facility. We now have firmly placed our roots in the Highlands and look to continue our growth”.

Graham & Sibbald represented HIE in the sale.
