Ryden Team Raise £5,938 For Maggie’s
21 May 2009
A team from property consultants Ryden has raised £5,938 in aid of Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres after completing the charity’s Monster Bike & Hike over the May bank holiday weekend (2-3 May). The event sees teams go from Fort William to Inverness non-stop within 24 hours covering 73 miles along the Great Glen Way.
Two of the Ryden team, Anne Rennie and Gus Stewart pushed all the way to the gold stage which involved a 30 mile cycle followed by a 43 mile hike. With excellent times of 15 hours 45 minutes for Anne and 18 hours 55 minutes for Gus they finished in Inverness in the wee hours of the morning. Three other members of the team Val Hamill, David Fraser and Ford Swanson did the 22 mile hike which took them to silver stage in just over 12 hours and Neil McAllister completed the 8 mile hike taking him to bronze. The inclement weather on the day presented its own challenges to the team and all did well to reach the finish line.
Maggie’s provides support to anyone affected by any type of cancer, be they a patient, family member or friend. They provide a free programme of information, psychological support and anxiety reduction to complement medical treatment received at adjacent NHS hospitals. Every penny raised by participants in the Monster Bike & Hike goes towards supporting those families, friends and carers who have been touched by cancer.
