Rare Development Opportunity Brought to Ayrshire Market
21 May 2010
Ryden has been instructed by NHS Ayrshire and Arran to sell Seafield House, Ayr, the former residence of construction entrepreneur Sir William Arrol, whose company built among others the Forth Bridge, the new Tay Bridge and the London Tower Bridge.
Seafield House was built c. 1888 and is set in substantial grounds of c. 6.67 acres. NHS Ayrshire and Arran used the property as a hospital and headquarters office facility. The building was subjected to extensive fire damage and as a result all modern extensions to the property were removed. The main building on site, which is category B Listed, was retained.
South Ayrshire Council’s Planning Department is encouraging sympathetic development of the site and will be receptive to creative and imaginative ideas for the re-use of the Listed building.
Russell Rutherford, partner responsible for the disposal of the property, commented: “This is an extremely attractive development opportunity, being situated in one of the best areas of Ayr. Conversion of the Listed building will create a quality development augmented by the further development potential within the grounds. An opportunity also exists for a potential mix of uses including residential, hotel/leisure or healthcare.”
