New Offices for Tods of Orkney
20 May 2010
Food manufacturer Tods of Orkney Ltd has moved into new purpose built offices at Edinburgh’s New Town Mews, Broughton Place Lane. Ryden provided full architectural design and contract administration services for the project.
The new 105 sq m accommodation comprises four cellular offices built on a gap site previously owned by Tods. A number of restrictions affected the site and the design of the building; principally its location in a conservation area bordering the UNESCO World Heritage Site, and restricted access down a narrow mews lane.
Mark Friars of Ryden said: “The client’s brief was for a new, modern office building for their own use comprising four cellular offices to allow them to move out of their existing premises in a nearby Georgian town house. We negotiated with the local authority and worked with the contractor to detail a design and choose materials to overcome the restrictions and architectural challenges of the site.”
Tods’ former offices in Broughton Lane will be offered for lease following their refurbishment.
