Chop Chop puts Commercial Quay on Menu
14 May 2010
The Chinese restaurant Chop Chop, which was hailed by Gordon Ramsay last year on his F Word show as one of the top restaurants in Britain, is set to open its second outlet in Edinburgh at Commercial Quay, Leith.
Ryden, on behalf of asset manager M7 Real Estate and landlord GE Capital Real Estate, concluded the letting with the restaurant this week. Chop Chop has taken the former Beanscene coffee bar, extending 2,425 sq ft, on a 25-year FRI lease at a rental of £37,000 per annum.
Chop Chop will join other notable eateries at Commercial Quay including Michelin Starred restaurant The Kitchin, International Starters Daniel’s Bistro and a new Khushis.
The new restaurant is due to open on the 14 June and will follow the same concept as the existing Morrisons Street outlet, which was launched four years ago and is renowned for its Northern Chinese cuisine and dumplings.
Jian Wang, chef and owner of Chop Chop, comments: “I’m so excited about the ideal location and interior of the property. Also, we’ll be opening in June, in time to serve Chinese barbecue around the water feature in front of the restaurant.”
Matthew Cheyne, partner at M7, said: “We are delighted to have added yet another award winning restaurant to the exciting line up at Commercial Quay.”
Will Biggart, surveyor at Ryden, noted: “The letting to Chop Chop is an excellent result for Commercial Quay and cements its position as the top food destination in Edinburgh. There was strong interest in the unit, but Chop Chop was the clear choice given its high profile and the outstanding success of its Morrisons Street restaurant.”
