UK's Largest Young Planners Conference
25th September 2007
Hundreds of professionals from across the UK are set to visit Glasgow next month to attend this year’s largest annual conference for young planners. Changing Climate – Changing Planning will focus on how planning must evolve to respond to global warming.
The event will take place in the city’s Royal Concert Hall on the 19th and 20th October. It is the 11th annual RTPI event hosted by the Scottish Young Planners Group and the Young Planner’s Network.
Main event organiser, Fiona Clandillon, is Chair of the Scottish Young Planners Group and a senior planning consultant at Ryden. She said: “As the biggest of its kind in the UK, this event has the potential to make a major impact on the next generation of planners across the country. It is hugely important that we are up to speed on climate change as we have a major role in adapting the built environment and in tackling property’s impact on the environment.”
Amongst the subjects on the agenda is the controversial Merton Rule which will be discussed by Adrian Hewitt of Merton Borough Council. The rule states that 10% of a building’s energy take should be generated on-site. It was initially widely backed by many English and Scottish councils however Westminster has withdrawn support, causing anger in planning circles.
Property consultant Ryden is headline sponsor of the conference. To book a place contact emma.tozer@rtpi.org.uk or 020 7929 9489
