Ryden Wins Buccleuch Challenge for Third Consecutive Year

16 September 2008

Ryden has won the gruelling Buccleuch Property challenge for the third consecutive year, storming ahead of the 68 other participating property industry teams.

The event, in aid of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, was held in the grounds of Drumlanrig Castle, Thornhill and the hills and tracks around Durisdeer.  It pits teams of property professionals from throughout the UK against each other over an eight hour test of mental and physical strength.

Teamwork is of paramount importance and participants plan their route and tactics, taking into account the strengths of individual team members in advance.  Activities include mountain biking, orienteering, river crossing, kayaking, swimming, and sack and three-legged races.

The Ryden team was headed by Aberdeen-based partner Richard Lang. He said: 'We’re delighted to have won the event for the third year in a row.  Our team finished in just over five hours but it gets harder and harder each year and I think that the swim in the ice cold River Nith might just be the hardest aspect of the challenge to date.”
