Newspaper Group to Sell Existing Printing Works and Offices
10 July 2008
Clyde & Forth Press Limited, one of Scotland’s major newspaper publishers, is selling its original premises in Haddington and Galashiels following a move to modern premises also based in the towns. Ryden has been appointed to handle the sales which are expected to raise around £550,000 for the group.
The East Lothian Courier property at 18-20 Market Street, Haddington is ideally located within one of the of the main retail streets in the town. The 14,329 sq ft (1,331 sq m) office and workshop accommodation sits on a site area of 0.213 acres (0.086 hectares). The buildings are B Listed and planning consent has been obtained for conversion to upgraded offices. £400,000 is sought for the property which has potential for a mixed residential/retail development.
The second property, in Galashiels, is where the Borders Weekly, the Borders Telegraph and the Peeblesshire News have always been published. Similar to the Haddington property, it provides 11,506 sq ft (1,069 sq m) of accommodation on a site area of 0.28 acres. There is also potential to redevelop this property for mixed retail/residential use and it currently has a retail frontage to one of Galashiels’ main streets. Offers of £150,000 are being asked for the property.
Roy Durie of Ryden said: “It’s rare for centrally situated properties to become available within these two towns. Traditionally, newspaper works were always situated in the centre of towns.”
