NHS Site Attracts Healthy Interest

12th July 2006

Following healthy interest from many quarters, including several residential developers, Ryden has set a closing date for offers of noon on 12th September for Edinburgh's former Royal Infirmary site. Acting on behalf of NHS Lothian, Ryden has been marketing the last remaining site at the old Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh.  The site extends to 0.85 acres (0.34 hectares) and is at the southern end of Chalmers Street (to the west of the Royal Infirmary) overlooking the Meadows.  It currently operates as a commercial car park.  Ryden’s Senior Partner Roy Durie tipped, when marketing began, that it was likely to be sold for residential flatted development, although other possible uses include offices, hotel, care homes, institutional, leisure, or educational premises. The site sits to the west of the former Royal Infirmary which is itself being redeveloped by Gladedale and named Quartermile.  It provides 30,000 sq. m. of office space, 8,000 sq.m. of retail space and more than 775 residential apartments.
