Free Sinclair C5 with Camperdown Unit in Dundee
04 November 2008
It's not every day you get the chance to become the proud owner of a piece of history when you rent an office but that's exactly what is on offer to potential tenants in Dundee.
The owner of the property, Crispin Sinclair, is offering a Sinclair C5 - a collector's item with something of a cult status - to the tenant that signs up to take on his office at Unit 35, Camperdown Street in Dundee's increasingly popular dockside area. Crispin is the son of Sir Clive Sinclair, the renowned inventor of the ZX80 and ZX Spectrum home computers and, of course, the C5 electric car.
Mr Sinclair, a keen motor enthusiast, took part in the Gumball Rally - a 3,000 mile road trip across Europe - with a C5 attached to the roof of his car. The experience, and the reaction to the C5, brought home to him just how fondly the little electric vehicle is viewed 33 years after its launch; "I wouldn't recommend trying to drive one 3,000 miles across Europe" said Crispin, "but it's a great fun thing to own".
The office, a recently completed conversion of a former dockside shed building, offers some 185 sq m (1,991 sq ft) of open plan space with a fully glazed frontage overlooking Victoria Dock.
According to Andy Boal of joint letting agent Ryden, the tenant of the office will have landed on their feet: "This is the last remaining office at the Camperdown Street development. The occupier will enjoy the benefits that the quality of accommodation and location have to offer, especially as the rent has been reduced to an extremely competitive £11 per sq ft and there's a Sinclair C5 thrown in for good measure!
Other tenants at the dockside development include Hillcrest Housing Association, Bell Lawrie and Enterprise North East Trust.
