Borders Residential Planning Application Lodged
19th March 2007
A community in the Scottish Borders could be in line for a welcome boost if a new planning application is approved. Acting for John Swan & Sons plc, Ryden has submitted an application to Scottish Borders Council for the redevelopment of the 9.6 hectare (23.72 acre) western section of the existing Auction Mart at Newton St Boswells.A mixed use development is proposed providing approximately 200 houses, some retail units, community facilities and a medical healthcare facility. The octagonal-shaped auction house is to be retained. The site is immediately to the west of the A68 trunk route and to the east of the Scottish Borders Council headquarters. The operating subsidiary, John Swan Ltd, has submitted a planning application for an alternative auction mart close by. Ryden is providing planning and development advice and once the plans are approved will offer the site for sale on the open market. Roy Durie, Senior Partner of Ryden would be handling the sale on behalf of John Swan & Sons plc and considers this one of the largest development sites to come on the open market for some time within the Borders.
